ITS KWEH KWEH TIME AGAIN!!










Rodwell London and Cheril London would like to cordially invite you to the KWEH KWEH in honor of the joining of Rimmon London and Ayanna Bradshaw-Sydnor in marriage! We would love for EVERYONE to come join us in celebration for this momentous occasion!!

A Kweh-kweh is an Afro-Guyanese pre-wedding ritual that originated among African slaves in Guyana, and is currently practiced by Afro-Guyanese in Guyana and abroad, today. Kweh-kweh historically functioned as a medium for music-centered, matrimonial instruction for engaged couples. The celebration includes MUSIC,FOOD,DRUMMERS, FOLK SONGS, DANCING, SINGING, DRINKS, and FUN! It is of great importance that we keep this part of our rich culture alive and well!

The Kweh Kweh will be held at the home of Rodwell and Cheril London on September 20, 2014 from 8pm- until.

PASSING OF RICHARD BAIRD


It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of
Richard Baird
He succumbed to a brief illness on Thursday, September 11th, 2014 at Newark University Hospital, New Jersey. He was 60 years of age.

He leaves to mourn his loss his loving wife, Cheryl (nee Rogers), and his three children.
Richard was born in Buxton, Guyana on 21st August, 1954 to Desmond Baird & Sybil Baird, both now deceased.
He is survived by seven siblings–Sydney, Audrey, Noelline, Myrna, Desiree, Claude, and Desmond (Jr.). He was preceded in death by Robert, Millicent and Keith.
The funeral for the late Richard Baird will take place in New York on a date to be announced later.

Obit for Richard Cornelius Nicholls




Richard Cornelius Nicholls who was born on July 18, 1918 in Bachelor’s Adventure to the late Louisa Holder and Richard Nicholls of Buxton Village passed on September 8, 2014 at his residence in Bachelor’s Adventure. At the age of 78, Richard started to write his life story and at the age of 91 years the first draft was printed. At the tender age of 92 he published his autobiography, “My Life My Time” which is available on Amazon.com
Together with his wife, the late Drucilla Elvira Pyle, they raised a happy family of 9 children. Richard and Drucilla were especially proud of the academic and professional achievements of their children, particularly his daughter, the late Dr. Valerie Nicholls-London, who made the family proud when she qualified as the first medical doctor in the family.

Richard Nicholls is survived by his children: Lauretta, Vilma Tafawa, Lawrence, Trevlyn Smith, Linton, Cynthia, Jennifer Cole, and Brentnol. He is also survived by his twenty four grandchildren: Omolara, Malika, Jumaane, Chisara, Camara, Rashidi, Jabari, Zakiya, Kurt, Kwesi, Mulunga, Kehinde, Jamala, Nkasia, Boris, Abigail, Samuel, Nickashia, Damali, Mosi, Jawanza, Lemuel. David and Raoul, and by his eleven great grandchildren; Bahtawi, Thulani, Ezekiel, Akosua, Abiola, Nataliah, Anniya, Elize, Daniella, Dandre, and Tiwalola.
Richard Nicholls roots are in Buxton and Friendship and his family are the De Harte, Holder, Beaton, Garrett, and Accra.
The burial will take place at Bachelor’s Adventure on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. May his soul rest in peace.
